| Sino Dutch Leonid Expedition 2001 During the night of 18/19 November 2001 a meteor storm would be visible from Asia. The earth passes a dust trail left by comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, cousing a real meteor storm. I was there as a participant in the Sino Dutch Leonid Expedition 2001. The aim of this expedition was to observe the meteor storm (photograph and visual)and to obtain scientific results for publication. The location where we were observing was the biggest optical observatory of China near the town of Xinglong. During the night 18/19 November, I have a Canon T70 with command back and a Canon FD 1.4/50 mm lens used on a Vixen Photoguider type 1. I used Kodak Elite II (200 ASA) color slide film. Exposuretime: 11m58s. On the first images the horizon is visible. The camera was open at the time the Leonid radiant rose above the mountains. In the right lower corner is a group of stars visible, it is the open star cluster M44 or Preasepe in the constellation Cancer. The last image is an spectaculair composition of many images! |
