Here you find pictures of the DMS Geminid campaign 2004. Together with some friends (Sietse Dijkstra, Judith Dijkstra, Casper ter Kuile, Carl Johannink, Michel Vandeputte, Rita Verhoef and Arnold Tukkers) I observed this meteor stream from Kahler Asten, a mountain near the German city of Winterberg. The top of this mountain lies 841 meters above sealevel in the Sauerland region. This is just east of the Netherlands in Germany. On top of this mountain, we stayed well above the inversian layer (filled with fog, smog and clouds up to 600 meters above sea level) which covered almost western Europe. There we had a brilliant look on the Geminids, with limithing magnitudes up to 6.8! We observed, depending on netto observating time and cp , between 500 and 1100 meteors each observer! I ended up with 1003 meteors during 7.98 hours! And what a show the Geminids put up. First we had the maximum somewhere around 20-23 UT. Sometimes we counted up to 20 meteors within 5 minutes! After a while , when rates slowly go down, bright Geminids starts to appear. Some impressive fireballs were seen. During these night I had my Canon EOS 10D with a Canon EOS 2.8/15 mm fish eye lens end my "old" Canon T70 with a Canon FD 2.8/15 mm fishe eye pointed in eastern and southern direction. During a quick look i found 26 Geminids on the Kodak Elite II color slide film from the Canon T70 and about 30 meteors captured digital with the 10D camera. Some pictures you will find here. For now only the EOS 10D pictures are presented here. So, it really was a great campaign. With many thanks to my fellow observers. And last but not least to Jacob Kuiper, meteorologist of the Royal Dutch Weather Institute (KNMI), who guided us to the Kahler alten near Wintersberg. I had a great time! Koen Miskotte
